For the VDMA the SAVE FOOD initiative represents a building block in the joint effort to avoid food losses. The right packaging is one of the most important keys to protect food from premature spoiling and to provide people worldwide with flawless quality food – be it in developed, emerging or developing countries.
"We have actual projects to show that making food safer is possible in a mutually beneficial, economic manner. Packaging will even help to avoid the wasting of resources such as energy and water, which you need for growing, harvesting, processing and the transport of products. Packaging means maintenance of value! To us who represent an industry it is a main concern that it is possible to alleviate some of the problems by the intelligent application of technology," said Richard Clemens, Managing Director of the VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery Association.
