After his vocational training and a degree in business management in Munich, Christian Traumann worked, among other things, for an auditing company until 2002, when he joined MULTIVAC Sepp Haggenmüller GmbH & Co. KG, a company based in Wolfertschwenden (Allgäu). In his capacity as CFO, he makes a major contribution to the success of the world’s leading supplier of packaging machines and integrated packaging lines.
1. Which aspects of the food waste issue do you see as particularly important?
If we could succeed in stopping global food waste, no one in today’s world would need to starve any longer.
2. What do you think is the best way to make improvements in this area, in particular?
One aspect is to provide information and training, and another is the delivery of adequate technology in animal breeding, harvesting, storage, packaging and logistics.
3. Can you see any positive developments in society in these areas yet?
We can certainly observe a gradual rethinking process in the developed countries concerning a sustainable approach to food. This is partly due to the amount of media attention that has been given to food waste, which is partly the merit of the SAVE FOOD initiative.
4. What institutional measures would you like to see in the future?
Any measures that cause people to rethink – manufacturers, processors and consumers. In particular, I would want to include the provision of comprehensive information on this issue.
5. How do you see the role of the SAVE FOOD initiative in the combat against food loss and waste?
Our main task is to provide information and education and to show ways that are already in place and suitable to master food waste on a worldwide scale.
