City Manager of Düsseldorf, the Capital of North-Rhine Westphalia
Burkhard Hintzsche was born in Duisburg in 1965. After studying business and administration in Stuttgart-Hohenheim and Konstanz from 1985 to 1990 he gained a degree in administration in 1990 and then joined the German Association of Cities and Towns as a research assistant from 1990 to 1992. From 1993 to 1999 he worked for the Association as a section manager, with responsibility for housing, housing management, tenancy law, building construction and building management, and from 1999 to 2001 for child and youth welfare. In 2001 Burkhard Hintzsche was appointed secretary for youth, social welfare and housing by Bielefeld Town Council, and in 2003 he accepted the same position in Düsseldorf, the capital of North Rhine Westphalia. On 10 September 2015 Burkhard Hintzsche was appointed City Manager of Düsseldorf with effect from 1 October 2015.
