The regional focus on Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya, its handson approach in customer relations and local research, as well as Mr. Zander’s thorough believe that Africa needs African solutions distinguishes africon from other existing consultancies.

Five questions to Marc-Peter Zander

1. Which aspect of the food waste problem is the most relevant for you?

The food waste problem spans along the full value chain. To me all aspects along this value chain are key to observe. In Kenya the supply by the farmers needs to be taken care of the logistics to the central production centers and the production are all important aspects.

2. What do you think is the best way to make improvements in this area?

Hands of solutions along the full value chain.

3. Can you already discover a positive development in this area?

In Kenya during our “mango project” various solutions were found to improve the value chains. A training for the farmers was key to increasing the yield and the installation of better solar driers are only 2 examples.

4. What institutional measures would you like to see in the future?

Most countries lack clear guidelines for the production of different products. Moreover, testing these products is key to ensure a certain standard and quality which will allow the companies in Kenya to subsequently export their products.

5. Which role does the Initiative SAVE FOOD play in fighting food losses and food waste in your opinion?

SAVE FOOD offers a great platform to share ideas, exchange success models from various countries and link local companies with potential solutions from well established companies.
