Initiative Lebensmitteldose

With their support of the initiative SAVE FOOD the initiative Lebensmitteldose (initiative food can) sets an example against the waste of food. "In many ways, the food can is a sustainable packaging: it protects the valuable contents through a very long shelf life of several years and keeps the contents safe from spoilage. Lossless logistics and storage without the need for cooling allows the distribution of goods in all countries of the world and prevents food losses on the way from producers to consumers, "said Andreas Momm, spokesman of the initiative.

As a new supporting member of the initiative SAVE FOOD the initiative food can makes its contribution in the fight against global food losses. In the spotlight of the cooperation are the benefits of the food can as packaging material to protect food from spoiling.

The initiative food can is now a supporting member of the global initiative SAVE FOOD, thus setting an example against the waste of food. "In many ways the food can is a sustainable packaging: it protects the valuable contents by providing a very long shelf life of several years and keeps the contents safe from spoilage. The lossless logistics and storage without the need for cooling allows the distribution of goods in all countries of the world and prevents loss of food on the way from producers to consumers, "said Andreas Mommsen, spokesperson of the initiative.

In joining the initiative SAVE FOOD, the initiative food can calls on the responsible handling of food through an increased use of tin cans. Even in the context of the interpack 2011 the association of manufacturers in the food and packaging industry was present at the congress-accompanying exhibition SAVE FOOD and briefed visitors on nutrition, packaging and sustainability.

That in Germany, even small changes in the purchasing and consumption behavior of consumers can achieve great impact in the fight against the enormous waste of food, is shown by the results of a survey of the initiative food can and the Technical University of Munich. The investigation of use and spoilage of fresh foods compared to foods packed in food cans resulted in the knowledge that an intelligent purchasing mix that combines fresh and can-packaged foods leads to a remarkable reduction of the rate of food waste.

The SAVE FOOD initiative was launched by Messe Düsseldorf in close collaboration with the FAO .
